Well, hey! I'm a scotch fan, who has only recently started tasting a couple of single malt Irish whiskeys, and I agree, it is of interest to scotch fans, although if you are accustomed to single-malt scotch, the flavor seems exceedingly mild, at least at first. You can find my review here:

I wonder hoew much time Lester wuld have had to hear other bands while on the road with the family band? It would be unlikely that two bands would be in a small country town at the same time. So I imagine that his sojourn in Minneapolis not only allowed him to accumulate records but also to catch touring bands.

I'm sure you were thinking of it at the time, but I remember Bruce Willis' career being down in the dumps prior to Pulp Fiction. After blasting John Travolta backwards into a toilet he went on to become a popular leading man again. Although, having said that, Travolta also went on to became a popular leading man again.

I will concede that this doesn't exactly disprove your theory. Imagine a film where Tom Skerritt shoots himself. It would cause the world to end.

I'm going through a mental list of people who have shot John Travolta, but it stops at Bruce Willis and Nicholas Cage. And in Face/Off John Travolta actually shot himself in the body of Nicholas Cage. He was probably shot in Swordfish but I haven't seen that film.

The screenshot for this one stands out - the composition is very dynamic. But according to the IMDB the cinematographer only lensed a handful of films (this was his second-to-last). Is the rest of it visually interesting, or is this just a lucky screen grab?

Taking a Ulysses class in college was one of the best decisions I made during those years. it's the kind of book where you really need someone (or some intro book) to explain to you the context, structure, and odd methods of the writing. But once get all that down, kind of like a secret decoder ring, the book becomes a magnificent, all-encompassing story of extraordinary everyday life in Dublin. Joyce's ear for language and music is so keen, and the joy he takes in using the english language is so palpable... After reading it then, and again more recently, I actually feel like I've lived there one hundred years ago.

This was really lovely. I've always wondered about adopted children and what happens if or when they make contact with their biological parents. I had an adopted friend and I gritted my teeth everytime another person would ask if she was going to track down her "real" parents. So this has been a very interesting series for understanding that process.

It's also made me curious to learn more about my heritage, I know I'm Russian-Jewish and Irish, but I don't really know anything about those traditions and I don't know where my Grandmother's family came from either.

I'm glad it's been positive for you, knowing your story can give you purpose or at least let you know you are on solid ground and not drifting uncounted or unconnected.

I just made one of these after browsing the CocktailDB for something interesting that I hadn't tried yet. It's so perfect -- like you said, this is THE Galliano cocktail! -- that I googled it to see if other people felt the same. Your blog was the only relevant result I found, though. Surely others must have discovered the Silver Dawn...? By the way, I believe it's very suitable to add an extra-long, tightly-curled lemon twist to this. Ah ... drinking it right now. Junipero gin works really well, too.

Gosh - they were quite a fun group!! The men got together to be entertainment for their chuch summer festival. The 'St. Alphonsus Fun Fair" in Brooklyn Center Minnesota was one of the biggest fairs for years in the north metro. Every year they raffled away a car & served famous roast beef sandwiches! The Happy Wanderers became quite famous & sang together for mnay years - their group toured Germany at one time. They sang great songs like Waltzing Matilda, America the Beautiful, Lilli Marlene...so many good songs.... Seeing this album brings back fun memories for this 100% Irish Catholic girl who grew up polka'ing to their music!
